VMWare View
Students in grades K - 12 are able to access the Manhasset Computer Network through a new technology - VMWare View.
View gives you access to a computer desktop with shortcuts to the same programs you use from any computer lab. This includes access to your files stored in your home directory.
This means you won't have to worry about transporting files to and from your home computer. Simply install a small piece of software or client on your home computer and access the Manhasset Network via View as if you were sitting in a computer lab.
Using VMWare view also means you'll have access to all of the software programs you can use in school - MS Office 2010 and more. So, no more difficulty with creating a document with a different version of software at home and not being able to open it in school.
If you have a Mac at home, you'll be able to turn that into a virtual pc while logged into VMWare and use the same MS Office software as we have in school - all without having to purchase it!
Instructions on how to download the client and use View are attached to the bottom of this webpage. Please remember that the District's Acceptable Use Policy applies to the use of this new technology just as it does those computers in the computer labs.Students should use the username and password combination they typically use in school. -
Student email
Students in grades seven through twelve have access to two school email addresses - one from Microsoft Office 365 and one from Google for Education. Each service provides students with a secure email address, online storage space, and access to online word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. For either account, it's important to note that student email accounts are to be used for school use and, for this reason, they are both locked down. This means that the accounts only send and receive email to and from the District domain (@manhassetschools.org ) or the student email domains.
Microsoft 365 - Students' Microsoft email ends in the domain @MUFSDLive.org.Google - Students' Google email ends in the domain @MUFSD.org
Instructions for initial login are included in the attachment below.PLEASE NOTE - Microsoft does NOT guarantee a backup of any data stored in this cloud based environment. You should remember to backup your own data to either your School based "Home Directory" or an external drive. -
Rosetta Stone
This is a web-based program, accessible from any internet connection for their current language of study. All students enrolled in a language class have been provided with log in and password information. Students are using Rosetta Stone to supplement their language of study.
The Rosetta Stone Method:
The Rosetta Stone method teaches language the way we learned our native language. Rosetta Stone uses pictures to establish the meanings of words and phrases so there is no translation. Lessons are taught in the target language using real-life examples. Tasks and activities engage learners in the learning process. New information is presented systematically so that words and grammatical concepts are easily identified and understood.
Version 3 Language Offerings:
In addition to the five languages currently offered in our schools (Spanish, French, Italian, Latin and English), Version 3 includes these additional languages:
Greek, Mandarin, Portuguese , Korean, Arabic , German, Hebrew, Irish, Japanese, , Polish, Dutch, Hindi, Persian (Farsi), Swedish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Turkish
Rosetta Stone PolicyRosetta Stone has announced, that in March 2017, they will no longer support browser versions older than Internet Explorer 11 or the latest versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox.
